Currently we are doing NASA sponsored research on the effect of convection on the microstructure and macrosegregation of directionally solidified castings. My co-investigators are Assistant Professor Erdmann of MSE at The University of Arizona and Professor Tewari at Cleveland State University. We are part of MICAST led by ESA-researchers in the German Aerospace Center in Germany. The research is directed to experiments to be carried out in the International Space Station, sometime in late 2009 or in 2010.

We are also studying the effect of proprietary polymers on the corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement of steel. The effects of these agents are studied by evaluation of mechanical properties (mainly tensile properties) and microscopy. This work is sponsored by a local research company.
