NSF Research Opportunity for Undergrads at The Uni
Deadline: Friday February 13th, 2009
Contact: Steve W. Martin
Description: At ISU we have a new NSF Sponsored REU Site, Research Experiences for Undergraduates, NEMat: Non-Equilibrium Materials, that I would like to bring to your undergraduate student's attention. I attach a flier describing our REU site as well as show below the link to our NEMat web site. Could you please be so kind and forward this to your undergraduate students for their consideration?

This research experience is specifically designed to encourage science and mathematics as well as materials engineering and related undergraduates to consider graduate school in Engineering in general and Materials Engineering in particular. The program is specifically designed to help students consider non-traditional graduate school programs. Your student's strong preparation in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, or other STEM undergraduate majors are perfectly suited to this program and we encourage them to consider our unique REU program.

We pay for travel to and from ISU, all living and meal expenses, as well as a $400/week, $4000/summer stipend. We hold weekly meetings, seminars, recreational outings, team building activities, as well as special tours, activities, and functions to help the students not only become more familiar with Materials Research and Graduate school, but to also enable them to have an enjoyable and memorable experience at ISU over their summer with us.

We have openings for ~10 students and would like to have one or more of your students apply. Please feel free of course to forward this e- mail to your students and encourage them to contact me should they want or need to ask questions before they apply. The application form is on-line through the web site and of course there is no application fee.

I look forward to hearing from any of your students should they apply and thank you in advance for your help in informing your undergraduate students of this exciting and fun summer research opportunity in Non-Equilibrium Materials. As a note, as is the case with many NSF sponsored programs, students must be U.S. citizens to be eligible.

All the best and thanks again for your help.
