LIA-MATEO

Back in January 2010, then University of Arizona President Robert Shelton met with representatives from France’s Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, or CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), to inaugurate the CNRS’ Laboratoire International Associé pour Matériaux et Optique or LIA-MATEO (International Associated Laboratory for Materials and Optics).

LIA-MATEO involves the University of Rennes I, France (Optical Materials) and the Institut d’Electronique, de Microélectronique et de Nanotechnologie (IEMN) in Lille, France (Phononic Materials).

In the U.S.A., LIA-MATEO is directed by MSE Professor Pierre Lucas and provides funds to facilitate the interaction of French scientists, researchers and students with the Department of MSE. It has supported several visits of French researchers to the UA and has already led to the production of five dual-Ph.D. degrees between the MSE department and the University of Rennes I. An additional dual degree is in the works between MSE and IEMN (Lille).  The University of Arizona and the University of Rennes I have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for dual Ph.D. degrees, and a similar MOU between the University of Arizona and École Centrale de Lille (member of IEMN) was established in 2012.

For additional information, please contact Professor Pierre Lucas.
