Thank you for your recent inquiry in which you indicated an interest in pursuing a graduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering. If you have access to the internet, information and copies of the application materials may be downloaded, filled out and mailed to us. The application can be submitted online and can be accessed through the Graduate College web site. In order to apply online, please go to http://grad.arizona.edu/ click on the “Apply ” button or click on the following internet address : http://grad.arizona.edu/Prospective_Students/Apply_Now/.
Information about our department may be viewed at http://www.mse.arizona.edu.
If you do NOT have internet access, please e-mail me to that effect and I will mail an application packet to you. A graduate catalog can only be viewed online. The website address is: http://catalog.arizona.edu/.
Admission processing begins with the arrival of your completed application and the required application fee. You will be notified of your admission status by the Department and the Graduate College.
Application (with fee) deadline dates are: Summer/Fall Semester-June 1 Spring Semester-October 1
Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to us from professors or employers. These letters should address your scientific competence and your potential research and teaching abilities. Also enclose a statement of purpose. This statement should describe why you are pursuing a graduate degree, your areas of interest and your academic and research strengths. These documents will be used to evaluate your application for admission and your application for a graduate assistantship.
Teaching and research assistantships are available in our department to support qualified graduate students. The assistantships, spread over a ten-month period, have a value of $18,074 and carry an automatic waiver of non-resident tuition. Please be sure to include your completed assistantship application form in your documentation.
This form is also available for download here (.doc), or here (html). In order to be a Teaching Assistant you need to pass The University of Arizona’s SPEAK test with a score of 50 or better. (The University of Arizona will accept a score of 50 or greater on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) administered by Educational Testing Service as a substitute for the SPEAK test.)
